Methodology & sourcing
How this site is researched, checked, and kept current — so you can judge the source, not just trust the summary.
What counts as a source here
We build from primary government and court records — the Gazette of India, PIB releases, MeitY and IndiaAI notifications, India Code, and Supreme Court and High Court judgments. Secondary commentary (law firms, news) is used only to find primary sources, never as the basis for a claim. Where a fact is an absence — a rule not yet notified — we say so and link the provision that would carry it.
How each claim is checked
Every substantive claim links to its primary source so you can verify it yourself. Where sources conflict — as they currently do on the exact enforcement date — we show the disagreement and cite the governing document rather than pick a number silently.
How current this is
Pages are reviewed whenever a tracked item changes — a notification issued, an appointment made, a judgment delivered — and periodically between those events. Each page shows its last-updated date. This is an independent educational reference, not legal advice; laws change, so re-verify against the Gazette before relying on anything.
Standing check for RBI citations
The Reserve Bank publishes an index of withdrawn circulars at https://rbi.org.in/scripts/NotificationUserWithdrawnCircular.aspx. Every RBI instrument cited here must be run against that index before it carries any status other than unverified, and re-run at each audit — a working link is not evidence that a circular is still operative. Departmental lineage matters too: the consolidation of 28 November 2025 withdrew circulars administered by the Department of Regulation and did not touch Department of Payment and Settlement Systems instruments.
Verification status
Every rule here is being traced to the government or regulator document that creates it. Where we have done that, you can see the document, its date, and when we last checked it was still in force. Where we have not, we say so on the page. We would rather show you the gap than paper over it.
Who maintains it
India AI Rulebook is maintained by Sandesh Kokate as editor. It is independent, free, and needs no login. Content is written in plain English and traced to official sources; no credential or authority is claimed beyond that.
How often we check
Every month we re-check the sources behind this site. That means:
- The RBI's withdrawn-circulars index and its Master Directions list. RBI has said it will consolidate other departments' circulars next, so payments-related sources are in a queue.
- New MeitY notifications and press releases.
- New SEBI, IRDAI and CERT-In circulars since the last check.
- The Supreme Court Observer page for the DPDP challenge.
- EDPB guidelines, for the pages comparing India with the EU.
- Any source we last checked more than 90 days ago.
Where a check changes something, we say so on our corrections page. Where we have not yet traced a rule to the document that creates it, we mark it on the page rather than leave you to guess.
The month's run sheet lives at /export/currency-check.md.
