RBI · Advisory framework (not binding) + draft guidance

Reserve Bank of India

RBI has issued the most detailed AI framework of any Indian regulator so far. It also issued draft model-risk guidance for banks in June 2026.

SEBI

Securities and Exchange Board of India

SEBI Regulation 16C has been law since 10 Feb 2025. A regulated firm is responsible for the AI tools it uses. Only SEBI's June 2025 consultation paper on wider AI guidelines is still a proposal. See the SEBI cybersecurity and AI page.

IRDAI

Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority

We have not found any IRDAI rules just for AI.

In plain English: a national guideline and a sector rule can cover the same ground for a regulated entity. If so, the sector rule is the enforceable one. Read it first.
